Wild and Scenic Management Committee Chairs Dear Wild and Scenic Management Chairs, Delaware River Greenway Partnership (DRGP), in partnership with United States Fish and Wildlife Service (USFW), and the New Jersey Division of Parks and Forestry, Delaware and Raritan Canal State Park (D&RCSP), proposes to carry out invasive plant removal and habitat restoration on three sites along the Lower Delaware River. The sites chosen are the Natural Area of Bull’s Island State Park, the northern shoreline of Bull’s Island, and the large open field lying along the canal and Route 29 at Fireman’s Eddy. Public outreach, in the form of volunteer training, website updates, photographic documentation, interpretive signage and/or publications, and a public presentation will be conducted as an important part of this project. The attached proposal details the project, and provides background and budgetary information. Projected costs for the three-year project duration are $41, 075. USFW will match in kind and in cash nearly a third of this cost, or $11,875. DRGP requests the remaining project cost, or $29,200, from the NPS - W&S Mgt Com. Additional volunteer contributions are anticipated to add 100 hours, or $1500, in value to the project. Following the close of the project, state park staff will continue appropriate management to maintain the benefits of the restorations. DRGP intends to build on these projects and past successful restorations in partnership with other interested organizations, with the eventual multi-year goal of invasive plant species eradication, and riparian improvement and restoration along the lower Delaware.
Thank you for your consideration.
Marion M. Kyde, President
